Ever since I was young I have been interested in the role that military has played in our society. I have always admired the men who so willingly put their lives on the line for our freedoms. I always felt bewildered by the contrast between those who felt such strong responsibility and others that were apathetic. I joined the Marine Corps after high school at the age of 18. I enlisted as an Infantryman and served four years in which I had two overseas deployments.
Our country is filled with so many different points of view towards war and the military. It has always been puzzling to me why our servicemen past and present have been taken for granted. Our country’s freedom is so dependent on the willingness of these men to completely lay there lives on the line. Yet so few people truly understand what it takes to do this. Isn’t it fraudulent to live by the spilled blood of these men’s efforts? These are the very people who protect our freedoms and other people, with so little knowledge and experience, ridicule them. It’s like biting the hand that feeds you.
During this Journey I would like to expose and educate others by showing a more intimate and true to life example of the roles of our service men and women and they roles they play in protecting our way of life. Hopefully this will allow people to re evaluate, re think, and become more involved in the reality instead of what they hear through media and other stereotypes.
